How to identify and reorder a relined brake shoe

  On most trucks or trailers there are several things you must know before you can properly identify the brakes shoes.
  1. Type of brake (Dana, Eaton, Fruehauf, Meritor, etc.)
  2. Where are the shoes located?
    1. Steer Axle
    2. Drive Axle
    3. Trailer Axle
  3. What type of shoe?
    1. Standard shoe (Pin type) with a full closed eye on the anchor end.
    2. Q type brake (Quick Change) with an open eye on both anchor and cam ends.
  4. Size of shoe (Drum diameter-shoe width)
    (15½ x 3-1/2½, 15½ x 4½, 16-1/2½ x 5½, 16-1/2½ x 6½, 16-1/2½ x 7½, 16-1/2½ x 8-5/8½, 16-1/2½ x 10½)
  5. What type of lining? (refer to available Carlisle linings).
  6. Do you need a hardware kit? (Springs, pins, bushings, etc. Refer to hardware kit information).
